“Premeditated murder is a serious offense. When this subject becomes a reality to the life of any human being, there is an automatic reflex that justice should be done and such violence should not be tolerated. There is an automatic gesture of rebellion to protect the human body against such horrors.

On the other hand, men use premeditation in violent crimes against God through their immoral values and immoral standards that they live by, associate with, and condone in many ways. It is a rarity that men are appalled by this act against God that reflects in the Soul or to the Souls of men.

Foul language, foul gestures, suggestive jokes, encouragement to sin, impure motives, impure attentions, are all as offensive as premeditated murder, because in their very essence they are abusive to the Soul or Souls. They play into the hands of the devil and they many times cause deep cancerous crevices upon the Soul or Souls, with little chance, with little thought of reparation for such offenses.

As members of The Society Of Saint John Vianney, you follow in the footsteps of a Great Saint. You have accepted the position of honoring him for and in what He stood for. You have taken a Pledge concerning yourself with the responsibility of Souls.

Tonight as you repeat this Pledge out loud, remember that what you say to God, He remembers.”
